March in Kolkata against corruption in government schemes and job recruitments
On July 7th, Revolutionary Youth Association (RYA) and All India Students' Association(AISA) gave call for a march to Nabanna against the corruption in government schemes and the recruitment in government jobs. The call was to give deputation to Nabanna based on the following demands: immediate corruption-free and permanent recruitment in all state and central government posts, immediate recruitment of the deprived due to corruption; opposition to the corruption and nepotism in MNREGA works; ensuring the status of government worker to the mid-day meal and anganwari workers; ensuring 12 month salary of the mid-day meal workers and immediate repealing of the Agnipath scheme. Cadres of the organisation put up a strong campaign all across the state based on these agenda. Unemployed youths were encouraged to join this program through street meetings, marches, postering etc. Eligible job applicants, who after becoming deprived due to corruption are picketing in various places in Kolkata, were also invited to join this program. Along with this Asha- Anganwadi- Midday-Meal Workers, debt ridden women who are being harassed on a daily basis by the agents of microfinance companies were also invited to this program. Campaigns were also done through the social media. The deprived SSC , group-D aspirants, along with many others made statements in support of this program. At the call of the organisation; cadres, supporters, deprived job aspirants, anganwari, mid-day meal workers, members of 'Rin Mukti Committee' from all across the state gathered at the Ramleela Maidan, Moulali. From the beginning of the gathering itself, police told that they will not allow a march, despite the fact that prior police permission of the program was already taken. There was a heated argumentation between the police and the leadership of organisation, including the state secretary of CPIML (Liberation). The leadership decided that the pre planned march will be continued despite police opposition and they are even ready to face arrests.
At the beginning of the March itself police barricaded the Ramleela Maidan and when the protesters tried to break through the barricade heavy lathi-charge was deployed. Comrades were forcefully taken to the prison van and many comrades got injury due to the lathi-charge. Comrade Madhavi Bag of Rinmukti Committee broke her hand due to lathi charge. More than hundred comrades were arrested and taken to the Lalbazar police station. CPIML(Liberation) state secretary comrade Abhijit Majumdar, party's Kolkata district secretary comrade Atanu Chakraborty, state committee leader comrade Sajal Pal, RYA state secretary comrade Ranajay Sengupta, state president comrade Apu Ghosh, state working president comrade Sajal De, AISA president comrade Nilasish Basu and many other student and youth comrades were arrested.
The stifling of democratic rights is nothing new in this state. This reached a new low when the Mamata police didn't even allow a peaceful deputation activity. Actually, the government is fearful about the massive anger of the ordinary students and youths against the various recruitment scams of the government including that of SSC. The continuous indirect leadership of the RYA in the SSC movement has probably raised the eye-brow of the government. That's why they unleashed this police attack on the students. But the police atrocities cannot stop the youth movement. After the arrest the the zeal and the passion towards struggle has reignited across the whole organization. The youth organisers are determined to spread the works of RYA across the state and strengthen the movement against all anti-people policies of the state and the central government. We have already build up connections with various forums of job applicants' movement. Representatives of those forums also took part in this program. In coming days, our youth organisation have to put utmost effort to build district wise program with them and spread their movement all across the West Bengal. RYA calls youth comrades to join the rural workers' organisations' mass connectivity programs in coming days.
